New Gymnasium and Cafeteria Oak Grove Middle School

Paragould, Arkansas

In 2016, Brackett-Krennerich Architects were commissioned to design a new middle school gymnasium and cafeteria for Paragould School District. The 26,000 square foot building features a Gymnasium for 634 spectators, as well as a commercial kitchen and cafeteria for Oak Grove Middle School.

The building also houses coach’s offices and locker rooms for various sports teams and a weight room on the second floor at the top of the bleachers. The Gymnasium features a new maple wood floor for basketball and volleyball and clerestory north facing windows were added to bring natural light into the space. Large overhead coiling doors separate the cafeteria from the gymnasium which will allow the two spaces to be used in conjunction for large gatherings like science fairs and assembly programs.

The structural steel building construction cost is $5 Million and has brick, metal panels and EIFS exterior finishes. This new gymnasium will allow the middle school sports teams to relocate from an old elementary school gymnasium into a much needed larger facility that can handle larger crowds for various events.
